βAnd they departed from the mount of the LORD three days' journey: and the ark of the covenant of the LORD went before them in the three days' journey, to search out a resting place for them.β
βΒΆ Then verily the first [covenant] had also ordinances of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary.β
βΒΆ And they shall make an ark [of] shittim wood: two cubits and a half [shall be] the length thereof, and a cubit and a half the breadth thereof, and a cubit and a half the height thereof.β
βAnd thou shalt overlay it with pure gold, within and without shalt thou overlay it, and shalt make upon it a crown of gold round about.β
βAnd thou shalt cast four rings of gold for it, and put [them] in the four corners thereof; and two rings [shall be] in the one side of it, and two rings in the other side of it.β
βAnd thou shalt make staves [of] shittim wood, and overlay them with gold.β
βAnd thou shalt put the staves into the rings by the sides of the ark, that the ark may be borne with them.β
βThe staves shall be in the rings of the ark: they shall not be taken from it.β
βAnd thou shalt put into the ark the testimony which I shall give thee.β
βAnd thou shalt make a mercy seat [of] pure gold: two cubits and a half [shall be] the length thereof, and a cubit and a half the breadth thereof.β

βAnd he overlaid it with pure gold within and without, and made a crown of gold to it round about.β
βAnd he cast for it four rings of gold, [to be set] by the four corners of it; even two rings upon the one side of it, and two rings upon the other side of it.β
βAnd he made staves [of] shittim wood, and overlaid them with gold.β
βAnd he put the staves into the rings by the sides of the ark, to bear the ark.β

βOne cherub on the end on this side, and another cherub on the [other] end on that side: out of the mercy seat made he the cherubims on the two ends thereof.β
βAnd the cherubims spread out [their] wings on high, [and] covered with their wings over the mercy seat, with their faces one to another; [even] to the mercy seatward were the faces of the cherubims.β
βΒΆ And he smote the men of Bethshemesh, because they had looked into the ark of the LORD, even he smote of the people fifty thousand and threescore and ten men: and the people lamented, because the LORD had smitten [many] of the people with a great slaughter.β
βΒΆ Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, How glorious was the king of Israel to day, who uncovered himself to day in the eyes of the handmaids of his servants, as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovereth himself!β
β[There was] nothing in the ark save the two tables of stone, which Moses put there at Horeb, when the LORD made [a covenant] with the children of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt.β
βAnd as the ark of the LORD came into the city of David, Michal Saul's daughter looked through a window, and saw king David leaping and dancing before the LORD; and she despised him in her heart.β
βΒΆ Again, David gathered together all [the] chosen [men] of Israel, thirty thousand.β
βAnd David arose, and went with all the people that [were] with him from Baale of Judah, to bring up from thence the ark of God, whose name is called by the name of the LORD of hosts that dwelleth [between] the cherubims.β
βAnd they set the ark of God upon a new cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab that [was] in Gibeah: and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drave the new cart.β
βAnd they brought it out of the house of Abinadab which [was] at Gibeah, accompanying the ark of God: and Ahio went before the ark.β
βΒΆ And when they came to Nachon's threshingfloor, Uzzah put forth [his hand] to the ark of God, and took hold of it; for the oxen shook [it].β
βAnd the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there for [his] error; and there he died by the ark of God.β
βAnd David was displeased, because the LORD had made a breach upon Uzzah: and he called the name of the place Perezuzzah to this day.β
βAnd David was afraid of the LORD that day, and said, How shall the ark of the LORD come to me?β
βSo David would not remove the ark of the LORD unto him into the city of David: but David carried it aside into the house of Obededom the Gittite.β
βAnd the ark of the LORD continued in the house of Obededom the Gittite three months: and the LORD blessed Obededom, and all his household.β
βΒΆ And it was told king David, saying, The LORD hath blessed the house of Obededom, and all that [pertaineth] unto him, because of the ark of God. So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obededom into the city of David with gladness.β
