βΒΆ And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.β
βFor as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office:β
βThat we [henceforth] be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, [and] cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;β
βFrom whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.β
βYe also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.β
βΒΆ For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also [is] Christ.β
βFor by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether [we be] Jews or Gentiles, whether [we be] bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.β
βAnd whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.β
βPraising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.β
βBut now [are they] many members, yet but one body.β
βFor the body is not one member, but many.β
βΒΆ Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.β
βNay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary:β
βAnd those [members] of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely [parts] have more abundant comeliness.β
βBut now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.β
βFor our comely [parts] have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that [part] which lacked:β
βAnd the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.β
βThat there should be no schism in the body; but [that] the members should have the same care one for another.β
βIf the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?β
βAnd if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?β
βIf the whole body [were] an eye, where [were] the hearing? If the whole [were] hearing, where [were] the smelling?β
βAnd if they were all one member, where [were] the body?β
βΒΆ Wherefore receive ye one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God.β
βWherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.β
βIn whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.β
βIn whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:β
βAnd are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner [stone];β
βBut we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.β
βWhom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid [their] hands on them.β
βΒΆ And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.β
βNow therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;β
βΒΆ Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus:β
βThen the twelve called the multitude of the disciples [unto them], and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.β
βAnd the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:β
βThat ye may with one mind [and] one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.β
βAnd the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.β
βThen there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called [the synagogue] of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen.β
βΒΆ And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.β
βAnd they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.β
βThen they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and [against] God.β
βAnd they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon [him], and caught him, and brought [him] to the council,β
βAnd set up false witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law:β
βFor we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered us.β
