About the Book of Revelation

The book of Revelation is the Bible's final book and its most dramatic — a sweeping vision of cosmic conflict, divine judgment, and ultimate triumph. Written by the apostle John during his exile on the island of Patmos (around AD 95), it is addressed to seven churches in Asia Minor facing persecution, and through them to believers in every age.

The book opens with majestic visions of the risen, glorified Christ, then moves through a series of symbolic sequences — seven seals, seven trumpets, seven bowls — depicting the unfolding of history and God's judgment on evil. These are followed by the fall of Babylon, the second coming of Christ, the millennium, the final judgment, and ultimately the new heaven and new earth.

Revelation can seem bewildering, but its core message is simple and triumphant: God wins. Evil is defeated. Death is conquered. For suffering Christians throughout history, Revelation has been a lifeline — a reminder that present suffering is temporary and God's purposes cannot be thwarted. Chapter 21 offers one of the most breathtaking descriptions in all of Scripture: "He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain."
